About This Year’s Playwrights…
This year’s 3 award-winning Oregon playwrights are: Oregon native and Willamette University alumnus EM Lewis, who won the ATCA/Steinberg Award and the Ted Schmitt Award for Outstanding Writing of a World Premiere Play from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle; A Portland based playwright, Aleks Merilo, who won the Julie Harris playwriting award at the Beverley Hills Theater Guild and will be produced Off Broadway at 59E59 Theatres this October; Returning this August to round out the series is Oregon playwright and Willamette visiting professor Andrea Stolowitz with her newest world premiere play. Andrea was recently awarded and is completing a writing fellowship in Germany, and won the Angus L. Bowmer Award for Drama from the Literary Art’s Oregon Book Awards.
