“Boosting Morale: Entertaining and Feeding

Camp Adair Soldiers during WWII”

John Baker, war historian and author of Camp Adair: the story of a World War II

Cantonment, will discuss the reputation of Salem’s restaurant industry and social scene

for fortifying soldiers at the WWII Camp Adair training facility near Corvallis.

This lecture will take place in the Dye House.

History was Here: The Home Front in WWII

This family-friendly event explores the vital role the

Thomas Kay Woolen Mill played in the war effort and the

importance of civic participation through Victory Gardens

and Civil Defense Stations.

Meet a real-life Rosie the Riveter, enjoy 1940s music and

see military uniforms and vehicles, including a “DUK”

amphibious vehicle. Kids can break secret codes,

train as expert plane spotters, and join our

Scrappo building contest!
