Always Fresh – Always Local
Salem Food Co-Op
Vendor Spotlight…
Getting to know Salem Food Co-op
Name(s) of Vendor: Cindy, Debra, Kerry, Laura, Melanie, Robyn

Salem Food Co-op sells fresh, locally grown and harvested, organic produce, meats and seafood as well as organic staples such as grains, nuts, dried fruit and legumes. Much of our dry goods are sourced through Corvallis and Eugene distributors (Hummingbird, Mountain Rose Herbs). Our produce changes with the seasons.

How long have you been at the market?

Salem Food Co-op has been vending at the market for a year. We also have an online store where you can order even more items for pickup at the market. It brings in folks to the market who may never have been there before. And some of our regular market shoppers are now ordering online too.

What’s your most popular item?

Our most popular item is our organic dried mangos. They are amazing! They are sweet and chewy with no sugar added. Sometimes we run out because everyone loves them so much. They make the perfect hiking food or late night snack.

What’s your personal favorite item?

I really love our seafood. It is sustainably caught and is flash frozen so that it arrives as fresh as possible. The black cod or sablefish that we carry is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. So is the salmon. And, it thaws fast enough to have it for dinner that same day. That’s great if you need a quick idea.

What’s your favorite part about being a vendor at the Salem Public Market?

My favorite part of being a vendor at the market is all of the warm and fascinating people we have as customers. They are loyal shoppers and it is always nice to see them throughout the year. It’s a great place to socialize and meet new people. I have developed some great friendships over the years with the shoppers at the market and I look forward to seeing them on Saturdays.

Sue Flanagan from St. Louis is returning to Salem on August 15th. Some of you might remember her from when she was at the market 2 years ago. She beads jewelry, many one of a kind pieces. The beads can be turquoise, coral, amethyst, peridot, lapis, jaspers, pearls and more. Her prices are very affordable and her jewelry is GORGEOUS!! Stop by and check out her amazing work this Saturday!

Like always, the market will be filled with fresh, local produce and meats, flowers, unique crafts, organic fair-trade coffee, fresh made pastries and breads, dog treats, hazelnut products, honey, jerky, quilts and more. We can’t wait to see you this Saturday! We’ll be open 8:30am-2pm.

Make sure you plan on joining us on September 12 for our annual Harvest Festival! Bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Marion-Polk Food share and get free corn the cob. We’ll also have apple cider, live music and children’s activities. Friends of the Salem Public Library and Shelley’s House will be joining us for this fun event.
