The Mozart Requiem is one of the world’s most recognized choral masterworks. This dramatic and profound work is one of the crown jewels of Mozart’s artistic output as well as one of his last compositions. While the music is familiar, it never loses its thrilling power and poignant beauty.

Festival Chorale Oregon, with founding artistic director Dr. Solveig Holmquist, will perform Mozart’s best known choral work – the Requiem Mass – on Sunday, March 6 at 4:00 pm at the Historic Elsinore Theatre in Salem Oregon.

The 100-voice choir will be joined by orchestra and feature four emerging soloists: Laura Aguero, soprano; Janene Nelson, mezzo; Daniel Ross, tenor; and Harry Baechtel, bass.

The concert also includes one of Mozart’s earliest compositions for choir. The Vesperae solennes de confessore, K. 339, (Solemn Vespers), is a sacred work composed in 1780 for liturgical use in the Salzburg Cathedral.  Mozart’s Solemn Vespers sound simply divine, on a sheer musical level. Six movements of wonderful, religious music, culminating in, surely, one of Mozart’s finest tunes in the Laudate Dominum.
