Count Her In: A Report About Women & Girls in Oregon

Saturday, October 15, 2016
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Salem Public Library
Loucks Auditorium
585 Liberty St. SE
Salem, Oregon

Emily Evans of the Oregon Women’s Foundation (OWF) will present the findings from OWF’s recent “Listen to Her” tour of Oregon. Emily visited twelve communities throughout the state in her grandmother’s 1980s RV to gain information for a comprehensive report on women and girls in Oregon.

Women at Chemeketa Community College participated in Emily’s listening tour. The OWF report says: “The report ends a twenty-year wait for current, clear, and compelling data on Oregon’s two million women and girls.”

Ms. Evans’ presentation of the report titled Count Her In will be followed by a panel discussion in response to the information in the report and on potential efforts to improve the lives of women and girls in Oregon. The panelists will be Trish Garner, AAUW State Public Policy Chair, and Molly Mayhead, Professor of Communications studies at WOU.

Everyone is invited.

The event is cosponsored by American Association of University Women (AAUW) and League of Women Voters of Marion and Polk Counties (LWVMPC).

Leadership Training: In the afternoon the former AAUW of Oregon co-president Joyce Zook will present training in leadership. League members are invited to attend. For those who want to stay for the afternoon session, a delicious box lunch will be provided by Wild Pear. Sandwich choices are turkey, ham, or vegetarian. The cost for lunch is $10, which may be paid at the event, but pre-registration is required if you plan to stay for lunch and the leadership training.

Contact Theresa Johnson to register for lunch and/or the leadership training. Theresa can be reached at theresa121@comcast.net or 541-967-9516.
