Sean Paul Mills, Artistic Director, talks about the upcoming concert…

I can think of no better way to open a concert filled with works by master composers than with W.A. Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni. Even though he may not be as much of a “household name” to audiences, it is a delight to follow the Mozart offering with the relatively unknown Overture, Scherzo & Finale by Robert Schumann. Next, we take a step back in time and welcome two fine soloists join us for one of the loveliest concerti in the repertoire! We welcome back violinist Yvonne Hsueh and our own principal oboe, Jackie LaRue, as soloists in J.S. Bach’s Concerto for oboe & violin in c minor to conclude the first-half of tonight’s performance. Following intermission, the orchestra returns for the vivacious and enthusiastic Symphony No. 4 in c minor by Franz Schubert. It is unfortunate that Schubert felt the need, perhaps at the prodding of friends and colleagues, to subtitle this work; and especially with “Tragic” when the composition is far from such.
