#SalemOR Concert Band: Fellini at the Circus at Willamette University – Sunday, Jan. 29th

SCB fbevent

Have you ever wanted to run away to the circus? This is your chance!

The Salem Concert Band, under the baton of conductor John Skelton, takes you along with “Fellini at the Circus”. Hold onto your seat for a fun afternoon of death defying music!

Sunday, January 29, 2017 starting at 3 PM

Willamette University Hudson Concert Hall in the Mary Stuart Rogers Music Center

Step right up as the band performs the North American premiere of Fellini by Johan de Meij. The music captures the spirit of Italian film director Federico Fellini in the setting of a circus. The composer describes this as a piece “for alto saxophone, circus band and wind orchestra.” Let local saxophonist Randy Kem amaze you with his virtuosity, even though it appears that he’s simply clowning around. (Have you ever seen a saxophonist perform while riding a clowncycle? Something truly spectacular to see and hear!) The band will also engage the spirit of Fellini by performing the Symphonic Suite from “La Strada” (The Road) by Nino Rota. This music from Fellini’s 1954 Academy Award winning film captures an excursion by street entertainers (street circus) through the Italian countryside filled with joy and sorrow.

But wait — there’s more! Circus Ring by Paul Hart and The Ringmaster’s March by John Mackey invoke all the pageantry, humor, and animal acts of the circus, with a bit of a twist.

And if you act now, you can also hear not one, but two classic circus marches — The Circus Bee by Henry Fillmore and Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite by Karl King. They alone are worth the price of admission!

Don’t try to sneak under the tent — buy your tickets today! Tickets are $20 reserved seating, $15 general admission, and $5 student general admission. Tickets are available here, by calling 503-362-0485, and at the door.
