“Resistance Poetry” Featuring Marilyn Johnston and Penina Taesali at Barrel and Keg – Thurs. July 20th

Resistance Poetry

Attend a free poetry reading with Marilyn Johnston and Penina Taesali

Thursday, July 20, 2017 | 7:00 PM

Barrel and Keg | 1190 Broadway Street NE, Salem, OR

Protest poetry has deep roots in the United States. There is a rich tradition of poems about slavery, the Vietnam War, discrimination, and not surprisingly new works being created now in the Trump era.

Local poets Penina Ava Taesali and Marilyn Johnston will read poems published by established poets and their own poetry on the theme of resistance. The open mic afterward is open for you to share your own protest poems and/or protest songs and of course your general poems.

Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow.

Our hosts, The Barrel & Keg, feature a wide variety of beverages and the food pod in the back has a rotating menu of options for dinner!

The Barrel & Keg is located near the intersection of Market and Broadway.

We will have the area in back reserved. Just park in back or across the street and walk through the front door.
