Participate in the City of #SalemOR Riverfront Park Master Plan Update

An update to the Riverfront Park Master Plan is underway.

The City would like to hear your thoughts on future park uses, river access, park amenities, and more.

Take our online survey:

“Vision for the Park”

Tell us your thoughts on future park uses, river access, park amenities, and more!

This beautiful park in downtown Salem has seen a lot of changes since the last master plan was completed back in 2001. Recent improvements to the park include the completion of the Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge, and the temporary placement of a seasonal winter ice rink.

To help guide continued improvements to this popular park, we are requesting community involvement in the master plan update to address proposed amphitheater and stage upgrades, potential expansion of the Riverfront Carousel, connections and access to the Willamette River, and the future use of 3.8 acres of additional land at the southeast corner of the park.

Please join in this interactive master planning process.  There are a number of ways to get involved:

Distilled Pub Talks:

What Remains of the Bolshevik Revolution?

Wednessday, December 6, 2017 | 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM

The Half Penny | 3743 Commercial Street SE, Salem

Willamette’s second event in its Distilled: Pub Talks speaker series will feature historian Bill Smaldone, who will present “What Remains of the Bolshevik Revolution?”

A century ago, the Bolshevik Revolution overthrew capitalism in Russia and established a new communist society, the Soviet Union. “By challenging the established world order, the Bolshevik Revolution inspired millions of people around the world to fight for radical change,” says Smaldone. “At the same time it mobilized millions who feared it and aimed to destroy it.

Now — one hundred years after the revolution came to power and a quarter century after the Soviet Union’s demise — it’s worth taking stock of the revolution’s legacy in America and the world.”

Smaldone’s research focuses on 20th century German and European labor. In addition to a textbook on the history of socialism, he’s written two books involving German Social Democrats before and during the rise of Adolph Hitler.

Most recently, Smaldone translated and edited two volumes of documents about European socialist thought during the first half of the 20th century.

Free and open to the public!
