Divisions: Stock, Super Stock, Super Kids

Join us this weekend June 9/10 at the lovely Bush’s Pasture Park Soap Box Derby Track for our Annual AASBD Local Championship. The road to a becoming a World Champion starts with the Local Race.

Along with the rest of Region 1, Derby in Salem is really starting to pop! We’ll be running the Super Kids Race on Saturday and both Stock and Super Stock on Sunday. The Champions in each division win the once in a lifetime chance to represent Salem at the FirstEnergy All American Soap Box Derby World Championship in Akron, OH this July. There they will join Local, Regional, and National Champions from around the globe to race off for $36k of college scholarships and the chance of possibly becoming the 8th World Champion from the Salem Club.

For those racing, please arrive at the lower pit area by 8:00 both days. Saturday morning cars will receive final setup, inspection, and weigh in. Plan to catch the Super Kids at 9:00 and cheer on these awesome racers. Following final weigh in, cars will be impounded and stored overnight at the track.

Starting at 5:30 Saturday evening, there will be a Derby Banquet for racers and families at Izzy’s Pizza, 2205 Lancaster Dr NE. Be there or be square.

Sunday morning starting at 8:00 we will set up the track (help appreciated), the cars will be brought out, and final driver weights will be checked. We expect to get a crisp and early start and have a great afternoon of racing. If there are question on any of this, message us here or contact Club President Paul Sadler at (541) 410-0609.

First held in 1985, our Sheep to Shawl festival is a classic family event, offering the opportunity to experience the full spectrum of wool fiber processing, from the shearing of animals – sheep, of course, but also als, llamas, and the occasional rabbit – to the production of beautiful lace at the hands of expert fiber artists.

Weaving, spinning, knitting, and rug-hooking are on display, as are blacksmith demonstrations in our operating forge.

You don’t want to miss the 2018 Sheep to Shawl!

The scope of work for this project includes a communication strategy that will include multiple opportunities to gather input from the community to inform development of the Design Plan.

This public input process began in 2017 and will continue in 2018.

Walker Macy has experience in streetscape projects that have been shown to enhance downtowns. Their project team consists of experienced professionals in the fields of landscape architecture/planning, civil engineering, transportation, public involvement, and economics.
